Welcome to my website! I am an Associate Professor of English at California State University Channel Islands where I teach British literature and English linguistics. My research interests lie at the intersection of language and literature, focusing on the linguistic performance of social identity and the ways in which stylistic variation is represented in literature. My work has been published in Nineteenth Century Theatre and Film, Philological Quarterly, Victorian Literature and Culture, Victorian Popular Fictions, and Victorian Studies. I am currently finishing my first book, Dialect Acts: Identity Performance on the Victorian Page and Stage.
I am also an actor, director, dramaturge, and dialect coach. You can read more about my theatrical endeavors on the Theatre page of this site.
